Spring is finally here! No more plows, no more cold, and best of all, no more snow! Even with all of these factors out of the way, water damage is here to stay. Many people take vacations in the spring because of their eagerness for summer to arrive. Many people also forget that you still have to take care of your home! Just because there’s no snow doesn’t mean there’s no water! Spring is filled with rain and you should be prepared for it all before leaving for your next vacation!
Inspecting your home in the spring is a little bit less work that having to check it in the winter. There are a few things you can knock off your list, like insulating pipes. There’s a slim chance the weather is going to droop down to the point where your pipes are bursting. Check the weather before you leave and if you’re seeing a crazy drop in temps, you might want to have a friend checking up on the house from time to time.
Indoor inspections are pretty easy; it’s mostly checking for leaks. If you have a leak and it goes unnoticed for one or two weeks, it could turn into something more than it needs to be. To avoid this, check them before you go! This includes under the sink, appliances, hoses, and water heaters. You may also want to check the seal on doors and windows.
Outdoor inspection includes the roof and the gutters. The roof should be inspected for damaged or missing shingles. Make sure to repair as soon as possible. You may also go inside the attic and check for any light shining through. This will let you know if there’s any holes. Gutters should be inspected for debris or any blockage to avoid overflow. Also be sure to check that downspouts are facing the opposite direction of the home.
These are just a few things you can do to keep yourself prepared. If you really want to be prepared, make inspections a regular thing! Check them once a month, just to make sure everything is in order. Prevention goes a long way. Under any circumstances where water does breach the barrier, call us! The team that was sent to our house was wonderful. Their experience and professionalism in our situation was outstanding. I was concerned about our children and they took every precaution (air purifier, microbial spray) to keep them safe. Not only did they have good work ethics, they were personable and caring as well.Angela and Scott S.
