Water Damage By Room
Whether buying a home or simply making sure your home is in good shape, here is a quick room by room guide to check for water damage:
Kitchen: The sink is the most obvious area for water damage. Water spots around the base of the faucet may indicate a leak. Pipes underneath the sink should be secure with no signs of water damage underneath them.
Bathroom: One of the biggest areas for water damage. Check sinks and pipes around and under vanity to make sure they are secure. If mold is present, look around to find out why. Poor ventilation? Showerhead not secure? Loose tiles? Also, toilets should not rock! A toilet that rocks back and forth needs to be secured before it does cause damage.
Basement: Another big area for water damage. Look for water stains on floors, walls, and ceilings. A musty smell is also an indication of water damage. Walls that are cracked or peeling are also signs of water damage in the basement.
Living room: Warped wooden floors, stained carpet, and ceiling stains are signs of water damage here. Check windows, too, as they may be warped as well. Windows that are not sealed appropriately can cause staining on the walls around them and floor beneath them.
Laundry/utility room: Again, water stains on walls/flooring in these rooms may mean water damage is an issue. Check pipes here, too. Rusted pipes may not mean water damage now, but could in the future.
If you’re buying a home, take these things into consideration. It may give you some leverage with the seller – or may make you change your mind completely if damage is severe. If you already own a home, be conscious of these things to avoid water damage problems.

The team that was sent to our house was wonderful. Their experience and professionalism in our situation was outstanding. I was concerned about our children and they took every precaution (air purifier, microbial spray) to keep them safe. Not only did they have good work ethics, they were personable and caring as well.Angela and Scott S.
