Water Damaged Hardwood Floors
Water damage creates havoc in a home. Hardwood floors usually take the hardest hit of them all. There’s a chance that you can save it, but it all depends on what the damage is looking like. Water damage can be hard to find. Unsure of how bad it could be? Call a professional water damage restoration specialist! Our water damage restoration teams have been dealing with water damage and hardwood flooring for decades! If you’re determined to work on this yourself or want to get a head start, here are some ideas on cleaning floors after water damage:
Timing is key. The faster the water is removed, the faster it’s going to dry. If you’ve called a professional, you can try to remove as much water as you can before they arrive. The longer the water sits, the more risk you put yourself in for mold growth. If you can, try to find the source of the water. This way, if it’s still leaking you can put a stop to it before you try to remove water that just keeps building up. Dirty water, from flooding usually, you may want to stay out of. It can contain all sorts of contaminants such as chemicals, sewage, bugs, and dirt. Replacing the floor will probably be best with dirty water.
Cleaning the floor is essential. Floors without mold growth can be scrubbed with soap, water, and disinfectant using a stiff broom/brush. Floors with mold growth should be cleaned with all the same items. Just add gloves and trisodium phosphate. After scrubbing, rinse with fresh, clean water and give it time to dry completely. If the floor is too moldy, you may want to consider replacement.
Drying the floor is also very important. Floors can be dried out with fans, blowers, and ventilation! Open doors and windows to circulate air throughout the home. Heating procedures may cause problems, so try to avoid any heat while drying out. If any area is left damp, you will soon have a mold problem on your hands.
It’s not always best to try and fix the floor on your own. Sometimes, you are unknowingly making the problem worse. Our water damage restoration teams will come to your home at any time with all the equipment necessary for water damage cleanup. If you’re unsure, don’t want to do the work, or need help with other areas of the home, give us a call today. Call us today for your free estimate. We look forward to hearing from you!

The team that was sent to our house was wonderful. Their experience and professionalism in our situation was outstanding. I was concerned about our children and they took every precaution (air purifier, microbial spray) to keep them safe. Not only did they have good work ethics, they were personable and caring as well.Angela and Scott S.
