Of course, you’re not required to do anything while waiting for water restoration specialists to come to your home, but if you decide to start the cleanup process, keep these things in mind:
Turn OFF all water, gas, and electric power to the home, and do not walk into standing water while working with electrical systems. If you’re unable to get to the main shut-off valves, sit tight and wait for the pros.
Do not touch contaminated waters without wearing gloves, boots, a mask – even if it’s a shirt tied around your face. Floodwaters and sewage waters are contaminated with bacteria, parasites and Lord knows what else. Don’t risk your health if you aren’t able to properly protect yourself.
If possible, remove any waterlogged items outside to dry out or toss out to help clear the area for water restoration specialists. If there are any valuable items that can be saved, move them to higher ground.
Open windows and doors to allow air to circulate throughout the home. This will help speed up the drying process.
If you’re able to begin removing excess water safely, feel free to do so, but only if you were able to shut off utilities. Since utilities are off, using a mop and bucket(s) would be the best way to start this process. Again, let the pros decide if the power can be restored before using a wet/dry vac.
Our water restoration specialists will be there as soon as possible to assess and clean up any water damage you have.

The team that was sent to our house was wonderful. Their experience and professionalism in our situation was outstanding. I was concerned about our children and they took every precaution (air purifier, microbial spray) to keep them safe. Not only did they have good work ethics, they were personable and caring as well.Angela and Scott S.
