Have you ever had your parents yell at you for leaving lint in the dryer screen? Mine did all the time. It wasn’t until the other day that I had learned why. Dryer fires cause more than one fourth of house fires. This can be caused by not cleaning the lint screen or from the lint building up in the vent. Here is a list of things you can do to prevent these fires from starting.
Cleaning the lint screen will do wonders in avoid fires. This screen should be cleaned out after every load you decide to do. It should also be washed every four or so months. A nice little test you can try out is to see if water will flow through it. If it flows, the screen is good. If water gets caught and creates a puddle, it’s for sure time to start cleaning. Lint screens are so easy to clean though. You could use a toothbrush and some dish soap to clean it out!
The dryer vent is a tad more difficult to clean out. Some people are not comfortable doing work because of the gas line (if you have one, that is) and that’s okay. You can always call a professional to come help. When cleaning this item, you must turn the gas off before anything else. Afterwards, take off the vent located behind the dryer. It’s the plastic or foil hose that is attached to the dryer. You will need a screwdriver to detach the vent and a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the lint. After this is completed you should go outside to clean the vent outside the home. Something as simple as wiping it off could be a big help.

The team that was sent to our house was wonderful. Their experience and professionalism in our situation was outstanding. I was concerned about our children and they took every precaution (air purifier, microbial spray) to keep them safe. Not only did they have good work ethics, they were personable and caring as well.Angela and Scott S.
